Dutch Boys' Clothes: Sun Suits

Figure 1.--This Dutch boy wears a knit sunsuit in a 1951 sewing publication. Mothers would make it from a pattern.

A variety of sunsuits for younger boys appeared in the late 1940s. They might have existed earlier, but HBC begins to notice them in the late 1940s. They were a style for yonger boys, similar in some ways to rompers, but without the elasticized leg openings. They would be worn by pre-school boys, although some boys as old as 6 or 7 years might wear them for play at home. Normally they weould have bibfront suspender styling. As with many Dutch garments of this period, some were made in knit.
