Austrian Boys' Clothes: Skating

Figure 1.--This photograph was taken from newsreel footage at one of the Viennese skating rinks. Apart from his ice skates, the boy wears conventional dress-up clothes for an Austrian lad of his age--a dark short pants suit with white shirt and tie and dark long stockings.

Winter sports like skiiing and skating are very popular in Austria. Both are not only sports, but popular passtimes. This is a charming shot from Vienna, dated 1936. The boy and girl, both aged about 10-11 years old are already accomplished skaters and dance gracefully with each other on the ice. This photograph was taken from newsreel footage at one of the Viennese skating rinks. Apart from his ice skates, the boy wears conventional dress-up clothes for an Austrian lad of his age--a dark short pants suit with white shirt and tie and dark long stockings. His suit seems to have a short jacket that doesn't come very far below his waist. His partner wears an attractive velvet skating costume with full skirt, trimmed with white fur. She wears a blouse of some sort under the velvet costume and light colored, probably beige, long stockings.
