New Zealand Fine Arts Education: Art Courses--Year 9


Figure 1.--Art programs in year 9 normally present a wide range of medium to the students to allow them to experiment in both familar and novel art projects. 

This is the art course available to first year students at most secondary school. First year students have only limited time for elective courses, so only one course is offered.

Art 31: Art Foundations

Entry Requirements: Nil

Cost: $3.00

Students must provide: an art envelope, A3 pad & B-B6 pencil

Purpose: To expose students to a range of materials and processes, and the language of art making.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

Content: Still life drawing unit (workbook format). Black and white woodcut and handmade paper. Painting. Portrait/Figure drawing through mirrors and fellow class members. Cardboard etching. 3D work, clay or plaster or Oamaru stone or wood sculpture.
