Art 51: Drawing Workbook

Entry Requirements: Form 4 Art or discretion of teacher

Cost: $4.00

Students must provide: Bulk Art Pack

Purpose: To use the workbook format in developing ideas and resources for art making, and to use a variety of drawing and printmaking media.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Use a variety of drawing media to describe subject matter.
• Produce pictures that demonstrate an understanding of composition.
• Be inventive in their use of media and picture development.
• Demonstrate the controlled use of practical skills and time.

Content: Landscape. Architecture. Maori Studies.

Art 52: Drawing and Printmaking

Entry Requirements: ART5 1

Cost: $4.00

Purpose: To use themes (still life, interior, Maori study) as a source for subject matter to be used in picture making and to use printmaking techniques.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Develop images from themes for printmaking.
• Produce prints using monoprint, dry point, intaglio techniques, block print and screen print techniques.
• Explore possibilities of printmaking.
• Demonstrate controlled use of practical skills and time.

Content: Artist study. Use of drawn resources as basis for prints. Study of printmaking techniques, wood block, dry point, etching, monoprint, screen print. Maori art study - carving, Kowhaiwhai, Tuku tuku.

Award: CSC Certificate or towards SC

Art 53: Painting and New Zealand Art

Entry Requirements: Art 51 and 52

Cost: $4.00

Purpose: To use established New Zealand artists as models in helping to develop painting technique and to produce images that reflect a variety of approaches. To use Maori art (art of the tangata whenua) as a major theme in painting.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Use a range of painting techniques.
• Show an understanding of 3 New Zealand artists.
• Be inventive in their use of composition and painting technique.
• Demonstrate the controlled use of practical skills and time.
• Recognise the relationship between Maori design and natural forms and be able to apply the same design process.

Content: Three artist studies. Maori art study continued. Study of painting technique.

Award: CSC Certificate or towards SC

Art 54: Final Works and Presentation

Entry Requirements: ART52, ART52 and ART53

Cost: $4.00

Students must provide: $15.00 Art Folio

Purpose: To draw together all sources of information and tie them together in one folio presentation through painting and final completion of art works.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Combine themes into one bold statement in a folio.
• Assemble the year's work into a workbook containing at least 50 quality pages.
• Finish and resolve art works and select and mount works into a folio.

Content: Painting technique. Composition, tone, texture, colour. Development of theme throughout folio. Resolution of artistic problems/ideas.
