This is the music courses available to second year students at most secondary school. Second year students have a little more time for elective courses, so only three courses might be offered, depending on the size of the school.

Mus 41: Performance of Music

Entry Requirements: It is recommended that Option music students have iteneratate private music lessons on their chosen instrument.

Cost: Varies

Purpose: This course will provide students with the skills, understanding and values of a wide range of musical styles through integrating Create, Recreate (perform)b and Appreciate activities.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Participate in a musical activity as part of a group.
• Compose and perform a simple piece of original music.
• Differentiate between varying musical instruments and styles of music.

Content: Group performance. Composition. Aural perception. Musical knowledge. Music theory.

Mus 42: Performance Music

Purpose: This course will provide students with the skills, understanding and values of a wide range of musical styles through integrating Create, Recreate (perform) and Appreciate activities.

• Participate in a musical activity as part of a group.
• Compose and perform a simple piece ol original music.

Mus 43: Performance Music

Entry Requirements: Mus 42

Cost: Varies

Purpose: This course will provide students with the skills, understanding and values of a wide range of musical styles through integrating Create, Recreate (perform) and Appreciate activities.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Perform two pieces of music in a concert setting.
• Participate in a musical activity as pan of a group.
• Identify what is beard in terms of musical instruments, melody, rhythm, harmony, intervals, texture and form.
• Differentiate between varying styles and periods in music history.
• Sit an external music theory exam.

Content: Individual performance. Group performance. Aural perception. Musical knowledge. Music theory.
