New Zealand Fine Arts Education: Music Courses

Here are some of the courses that a New Zealnd secondary school might offer in music. The basic courses will be offered at virtually any school. The more specialized courses will vary greatly from school to school.

Year 9/Form 3

This is the music courses available to first year students at most secondary school. First year students have only limited time for elective courses, so only one course is offered.

Year 10/Form 4

Year 10 students are allowed more elective subjects and, as a result, more music courses are available for them.

Year 11/Form 5

By year 11, schools being offering sophisticated couse work aimed at students that may be thinking about a career in music.

Year 12/Form 6

This is the music courses available to fourth year students at most secondary school

Year 13/Form 7

The Year 13 curriculum offers speclized courses for the advanced students. Each student chooses one of the three areas to pursue.
