This is the music courses available to third year students at most secondary school. Third year students have a more time for elective courses, so more courses might be offered, depending on the size of the school.

Mus 51: Performance Music

Entry Requirements: Mis 43. It is also required that Option music students have itinerant private music lessons on their chosen instrument.

Purpose: This course will provide students with the skills, understanding and values of a wide range of musical styles through integrating Create, Recreate (perform) and Appreciate activities.

Learning Outcomes: : By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Participate in a musical activity as part of a group.
• Compose a piece of music for the student's performance instrument.
• Analyse and apply elements of music through a study of a musical score.

Mus 52: Performance Music

Entry Requirements: Mus 51

Purpose: This course will provide students with the skills, understanding and values of a wide range of musical styles through integrating Create, Recreate (perform) and Appreciate activities.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Present a performance in which they are featured as a soloist.
• Participate in a musical acitivity as part of a group.
• Compose a piece of service music for a specific occasion.
• Present a performance in which they are featured as a soloist.
• Research and present information about a piece of music relating to their performance instrument.

Content: Individual performance. Group performance. Group participation. Composition. Aural perception. Musical knowledge. Music theory.

Mus 53: Performance Music

Entry Requirements: Mus 52

Purpose: This course will provide students with the skills, understanding and values of a wide range of musical styles through integrating Create, Recreate (perform) and Appreciate activities.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Participate in a musical acitivity as part of a group.
• Compose a song using a selected text.
• Present a performance in which they are featured as a soloist.
• Research and analyse and apply elements of music through the study of two sets of works.

Mus 54: Performance Music

Entry Requirements: Mus 53

Cost: Varies

Purpose: This course will provide students with the skills, understanding and values of a wide range of musical styles through integrating Create, Recreate (perform) and Appreciate activities.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this module students should be able to:

• Present a performancer in which they are featured as a soloist.
• Present a group performance.
• Participate in a musical acitivity as part of a group.
• Identify what is heard in terms of rhythm, melody, harmony, intervals, textutr, timbre, style and form.
• Research and analyse and apply elements of music through the study of two sets of works.
• Sit an external music theory exam.
