Uniforms Garments: Blazers--Black


Figure 1.--These boys attend a college with both a prep and senior section. The boys in both sections wear the same black blazer. The prep boys used to wear caps, but that had been discontinued by the 1980s.  

Black blazers by the 1980s were becoming somewhat more common than earlier, in part because the stripped blazers were more expensive. We also see some black blazers like the ones commonly worn at state secondary schools. Black blazers were very common at state secondary schools. Some of these schools have retaied older styles, but msany adopted a standard black blazer. Generally more colorful blazers were worn at the prep schools. In fact prep schools were known for their brighty colored blazers. While some prep schools have adopted blaxk blazers, many continue to have more varied blazers.
