Uniforms Garments: Blazers--Matching Caps

Figure 1.-- The boys at this school wore blue blazers with matching blue caps. The caps and the blazer both had the emroidered school crest done in red. Sometimes the caps were multi-colors, but the solid colored cap matching the blazer was the most common.

Boys once commonly wore matching peaked caps with their blazers. Normally the caps were the same color as the blazer or coordinated with them. Some caps were done in wedges or cirlcles. Normally an element of the resulting color comination matched the blazer. We noted one school which had both blazers and grey suits. The cap worn with both the blazer and grey suit matched the blazer. Schools with stripped blazers tended to have solid-colored caps. Caps by the 1980s were, however becoming much less common. The once pervasive school cap for some reason became rather unpopularr with boys. Most schools had a formal uniform with the blazer or suit, but without any headwear. The schools when they discontinued caps, discontinued headwear all together.
