The children at some schools wore their blazers during the day, but this was not very common at boarding schools. This normally ocurred at day schools. I'm not entirely sure why this was. I think generally the boarding schools tended to take a greater responsibility for the children's clothes. Day schools tended to take the attitude that this was basically the parent's responsibility. The boys at quite a few of the day schools we visited had many boys wearing their blazers. This was not required, but at many schools left up to the boys. Normally some boys did and others didn't. Here some boys might even wear their blazers for play during morning break. This was discouraged at some schools because of wear and tear on the blazers. Other schools seemed to have ignored this. Generally the boys wore their blazers primarily to keep warm on a chilly day.
The children at some schools wore their blazers during the day, but this was not very common at boarding schools. At some boarding schools the boys very rarely wore their blazers. This was not always readily apparent because most boarding schools have at least a few day boys and the day boys would wear their blazers to and from school. This normally ocurred at day schools. I'm not entirely sure why this was. I think generally the boarding schools tended to take a greater responsibility for the children's clothes.
Blazers were more commonly worn at many day schools. I think this was because day schools tended to take the attitude that the uniform was basically the parent's responsibility. The boys at quite a few of the day schools we visited had many boys wearing their blazers. This was not required, but at many schools left up to the boys. Normally some boys did and others didn't. Here some boys might even wear their blazers for play during morning break. Often the schools had no regulation on this. This was discouraged at other schools because of wear and tear on the blazers. Other schools seemed to have largely ignored the issue. Often boys wore their blazers primarily to keep warm on a chilly days. We think that the form teachers for te younger children might often provide some guidance, but this was less true for the older boys.
