Photo Essays: Uniforms Garments--Coat Types

Figure 1.--Here we see a girl wearing a grey duffle coat with a hood that was the school's uniform coat. Quite a few schools had duffle coats as the uniform coat. The boy wears a ski jacket with his own clothes. Ski jackets were very popular at the time.

Traditionally children wore the standard gaberdine overcoats. These coats make due as both raincoats and cold weather coats. Some schools still have these coats, but they are much less common than was formerly the case. Boys normally wear these coats without hoods, but some for girls have hoods. We note several schools that have duffle coats which were worn with hoods. These wee normally grey or navy blue. We also notice many children wearing ski-jackets. These were a popular style, but not a uniform garment. Rather tski jackets were non-uniform garments wore at some schools.
