Photo Essays: Uniforms Garments--Coats


Figure 1.--Here we see a girl wearing a grey duffle coat with a hood that was the school's uniform coat. Quite a few schools had duffle coats as the uniform coat. The boy wears a ski jacket with his own clothes. Ski jackets were very popular at the time.  

Prepschool children wear a variety of cold weather coats. Generally both boys and girls wore the same coays, but there were some differences. Many schools but not all have uniform coats. There were a variety of rules about coats at differennt schools. Traditionally children wore the standard gaberdine overcoats. These coats make due as both raincoats and cold weather coats. Some schools still have these coats, but they are much less common than was formerly the case. Boys normally wear these coats without hoods, but some for girls have hoods. We note several schools that have duffle coats which were worn with hoods. These wee normally grey or navy blue. We also notice many children wearing non-uniform ski-jackets.

Gender

School Rules
