Uniforms Sweater: Other Colors--Green Crewnecks

Figure 1.--Here some of the older boys take a break after games. The school uniform was a green crewneck sweater worn with grey shirts, grey shorts, and grey knee socks. Notice one boy wearing a prefect badge on his sweater.

The green sweaters we noted were also all crewneck sweaters, at least the ones we saw. "V"-neck sweaters were more common at prep schools, but several schools had V-neck and other types of sweaters. We don't recall any green V-neck sweaters. As a general rule crew necks were usually done in colors other than grey. This one might think would mean that the schools did not require ties for the normal school day. The V-necks were designed to be woirn with ties and crew necks were not. The cre necks of course rather cover up the tie. Discarding the ties for crew-neck sweaters was, however, not always the case at the schools--probably because wearing ties at prep schools was so common. We noted several schools where the children wore ties with crew-neck sweaters.
