Figure 1.-- This French newspaper ad from 1903. We do not know the title of the newspaper. The ad offered a child's dress for a boy or girl. It had patalon combinés. I'm notsure hoe to translate that. Pantalon would translate as bloomers or drawers.

This French newspaper ad from 1903. We do not know the title of the newspaper. The ad offered a child's dress for a boy or girl. It had patalon combinés. I'm notsure hoe to translate that. Pantalon would translate as bloomers or drawers. I'm not sure what the "combinés" means. It could mean a type of bloomers or just mean that they matched the dress. The dress was for a child ages 3 to 10 years old. Only younger boys would have worn it, although the ad curiously stresses that it is appropriate for younger girls. The age of breeching varied from familt to family. That would translate as, "Dress and bloomers combined for boy or young girls. This clothing is practical, not only is it ecounomic but is comfortable for the child. Small girls can wear it until age 10 years instead of the underskirt. The pattern is cut for children of 3, 4. 5, 6, 7, 8. 9. 10 years.
