West End: Winter Sailor Suits, 1909

Figure 1.--This 1909 West End ad offers sailor suits and caps. The two kneepants sailor suits look rather similar. Unfortunately we can't read the ad copy.

We note a Paris store which appeared to be called West End. This is not a store we know anything about. Wedo know that it was an extremely large department store located at Rue Caumartin, Rue Auber, and Haussman. There can't have been many stores that were larger. Perhaps our French readers will know about it. The use of an English names presumably indicates a fashionable high-end store. We have an ad from the store offering sailor suits. These were blue suits, probably made in a heavy material like serge for Fall and Winter wear. There were both kneepants and long pants suits. The two kneepants sailor suits look rather similar. Unfortunately we can't read the ad copy. The styles were called Colbert, North and Earl. They seem to begin at age 3, but I can tell to what age they went up to. It kooks like it may be age 11. The caps came with and without a streamer.
