German Mail Order Catalogs with Boys Clothings: 1968

Figure 1.--This page demostrates ways of outfitting boys and girls. One was folk-style dresses and lederhosen, in this case knicker or ski-type lederhosen. The other pair wear the same folk-style sweater. The girl with a skirt and the boy with short lpants lederhosen.

Otto-versandhaus also advertised knicker lederhosen in the smooth rather than suede leather. A younger boy wears short pants lederhosen with a high-collar buttoning jacket that a girl could also wear. Another girl wears a dress with folk styling. Unfortunately, HBC can not translate the German ad copy. We would be very interested in what ever details HBC readers can provide. I'm not sure what the text at the top of the page says, some appears to be cit off, "... mögen alle Kinder gern."

Item I

Item I is the girls' folk dress. It is worn with white kneesocks and come in sizes 104 through 152. The Ad copy reads: "Der Trachten-Look wird bei gross und klein immer ..."

Item J

I don't see this item modeled in the pictutes illustrations.

Item K

This is the knickers or ski-type lederhosen. They have a smooth, shiny finish and not the suede finish of most lederhosen. It is diffucut to read the letter, but the ad copy appears to read "??? die est richtig "Krachiederne" wie sie ?? soil: Unverwüstlichl Kniedbundhose aus ??? Vol;rindleder, Besonders kraftige ??? schmiegsam und weich. Vollkommen durch-??. Bündverarbeitung echter Ledergürtel Knöpfe .. Hosentrager. ..." The sizes are 104-164

Tights/Kneesocks

The older boy's patterened hosiery are not mention in the ad copy. HBC believes that the older boy is wearing tights rather than kneesocks with his lederhosen, but it is difficult to tell.

Item L

Item L is the yellow shirt. More commonly the shirts pictured are various styles of checkered shirts. The ad copy reads, "Knaben-Hemd aus Wirkfrottier. Naheres siehe Seite 297, Artikel O. The sizes are 104 through 164.

Item M

This is the jacket the little boy and girl wear. The sizes are 80-116.

Item N

Item N is the skirt the little girl wears. It comes in sizes 80-128 and colors red, navy, and white.

Box

The box in the lower right hand corner I believe tells what page larger sizes and childrens hosiery are found.
