This is one of three pages of rompers offered by Stuarts. They are made in both the open leg and elasticised leg styles. The rompers on this page are for children from 2 to 4 years, although there is one style for a younger style as well as a device to secure diappers called a sanitary belt. Both boys and girls are pictured wearing these rompers. Colors vary including tan, chambray, blue, and gingham. The style for te younger child is available in both pink and blue gingham.
Stuart's reports that these rompers cost 59 cents and were "Made of Fine Quality Chambrays and Ginghams, pretty patterns and fast colors. Best workmanship and careful finish. Similar garments are sold at 75 cents and 85 cents in New York City."
The ad copy reads, "Beach Romper, good quality blue or tan chambray, trimmed around the neck, seeves, and bottom of legs with stripped bands to match. Drop seat. Fastens at back. Sizes 2, 3, and 4 years."
The ad copy reads, "Beach Romper, white pique, with Kimono sleeves, trimmed with bands of medium shade of blue lawn as illustrated. Drop seat. Fastens down back. Sizes 2, 3, and 4 years."
The ad copy reads, "Romper of good quality chambray, tan, or blue. Low neck, short sleeves with white scalloped tape. Drop seat. Shirred elastic gives bloomer effect. Sizes 3 and 4 years."
The ad copy reads, "Beach Romper of blue gingham with white pin stripes forming quarter inch squares, Very pretty. Also in narrow blue and white stripes. Trimmed with bands of plain material to match. Drop seat. Sizes 2, 3, and 4 years."
The ad copy reads, "Infant's Romper of good quality, fast color gingham, pink and white or blue and white checks. Low neck and short sleeves, piped with white scalloped tape. Buttons around the insude seam of the leg--for the easy removal and placement of diapper. Six\zes 6 monthsm 1 and 2 years."
The ad copy reads, Stuart Ideal Saniraty Belt. Made of fine quality muslin, with elastic attachments as illustrated. Sizes 22, 24, 26, 28 and 30 inches waist measure. Price 25 cents." HBC at first thought this was for the children's diappers, but given the size itvis clearly for women. Presumably it was placed here because women would be making most of the purchases of children's clothes--especially thiose for the younger children.
