At least three of the boys are wearing sailor suits. Each of the suits are different, but are all dark suit. They each are styled traditionally, a contrast with early 20th century styles when sailor suits often were done in a wide range of style. This boy's middy blouse had the three stripes commonly found on tradiional suits. Notice the dickey with the horizontal stripes. There were many other styles for the dickies. Dickie style varied from country to country. These striped dickies were also popiular in France and Russia, but not in America and England. Through the 1920s, sailor suits were very common. By 1936 we suspect that only the youngest boys like these children would have worn sailor suits to school. Boys entered the Hitler Youth at age 10. These boys look to be about 7 years old and thus not yet eligible to paricipate. The NAZIs rapidly expanded the program and by 1936, most boys were participating. The NAZIs did not favor the sailor suit and it is likely that after becoming Hitler Youth boys, few German boys by 1936 wore sailor suits. An exception here was the boys that went into the Marine (Naval) Hitler Youth which had sailor suit uniforms.
