shoe bows: tunic suits

Shoe Bows with Tunic Suits

Figure 1.--This American boy wears an imacuately pressed white Russian blouse tunic suit with white strap shoes and shoe bows. The photograph was probably taken about 1910.

One common style worn with shoe bows were tunic suits. This is probably because it was style commonly worn by younger boys at the time that shoes bows were most common, the turn of the 20th century. Tunic suits were often worn with strap shoes--the shoe style most associated with shoe bows. There were several stylees of tunic suits. The American boy in figure 1 weares a Russian blouse sailor suit. HBC is unsure if certain styles of tunic suits were more commonly worn with shoebows. Notably boys in Russian blouse tunic suits did not wear collar bows with their shie bows. Most of these tunic suits were worn with above the knee nickers. They were worn with both socks and long stockings.
