Wrestling Singlet: Colors and Patterns


Figure 1.--The principal uniform item worn in competitive wrestling is the singlet. Modern singlets are destinctively style with a wide variety of colors.

The color of the team singlet of course reflects the boy's team or school. Singlets were initially plainly styled, usually solid colors. They were usually made in the schools main color. There often was a contrasting color trim on the shouder straps or leg openings. Modern individual or championship singlets now come in a wide variety of colors. Many have multiple colors or bold patterns in a dizzying number of color combinations. Stripes are very popular. Boys in eralier eras would have been quite startled by these singlets.
