Unidentified French Boy (1920s)

Figure 1.-- This French boy was professionally photographed in a studio somewhere in France, undoubtedly at the behest of his adoring parents. He is about 8 years old. He wears a short pants sailor suit with dickey (probably navy blue but possibly black). Notice the carefull tied boy tie and the elegant lace breast pocket handkerchief.

This French boy was professionally photographed in a studio somewhere in France, undoubtedly at the behest of his adoring parents. He is looks to be about 8 years old. He wears a short pants sailor suit with dickey (probably navy blue but possibly black). Notice the carefull tied boy tie and the elegant lace breast pocket handkerchief. He also wears a wrist watch on his left arm, carefully place on his cuff so it will show on the portrait. Note the rectanular shape, popular in the inter-Wars era. We wonder if this was the boy's idea or his parents. He wears black Oxford shoes and white knee socks. He is posed with one of his school books open before him. We might have thought it was a First Communion portrit had this not been a school book of some kind. Even so, he may well have worn this suit for his First Communion. It was a popular style at the time. The photo is undated, but I would guess it is probably the mid-1920s, perhaps as late as the early 1930s.
