Figure 1.--A French movie "Les Ritals", a derogatory French term for Italians, showed this boy wearing a beret and smock. |
A made for TV movie which features French Italian boys wearing dark smocks and berets. "Rital" is a derogatory French term for Italian-French. HBC has no information on this film at this time except for the fact that the boys wear smocks and berets. One HBC reader reports that Les Ritalsit was written by "Cavanna" (first name unknown) who is a well known member of the Paris
intellectual/political world, founder and still head of a humoristic weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo. The movie narrates his own story having immigrated in France from
Italy as a young boy. Hopefully French or Italian readers will provide addotional details.
