National Movie Depictions of Boys Clothes: Unknown Hungarian Film

Figure 1.--The boys are going to school in their smocks worn with short pants and kneesiocks. Note the book bags.

Some images are available from a Saturday Hungarian childrens film, but virtually no information about the film. Ot looks to have been made about 1970. No title is available at this time. Boys in the film going to school appear to be wering the same blue front buttoning smocks as shown in A Varazslo. This confirms that these blue smocks were widely worn by Hungarian boys in the 1960s and 70s.

Plot

HNC has no information on the plot of this film. The main characters seem to be younger children of school age, perhaps 6 or 7 years old. Part of the plot revolves around a school. The plot appears to extend over a period time as some children are pictured in cold weather gear.

Clothing

Caps do not appear to be very popular, but the children have hooded jackets for winter wear. They wear matching blue school smocks. As a result, it is not clear wehat type of shirts they are wearing. The children wear both long and short pants. The longs appear to be worn during the winter in cold weather. The storts are realtively short cut. One boy appears to wear plaid shorts whikle the oyher boy wears dark blue shorts matching his kneesoicjks. At least the children pictured are weaking kneesocks--both white and blue kneesocks. One boy has rubber boots. Another boy wears sandals. The children all seem to have traditional leather book bags or sachels.
