Chilean Boy Scout Uniforms

Figure 1.--These Chilean Boy Scouts in 1971 wear a tradition Scout uniform, berets, tan shirts, kerchiefs, short pants, turn-over-top kneesocks, and leather shoes.

Chilean Scouts since the 1960s have worn tan uniforms. I do not at this time have any information on early Chilean Scout uniforms. Chilean Scouts in the 1960s were wearing berets as head gear, but by the 1960s this had changed to base-ball type hats. The tan shirts and shorts appear little changed over the years, although the Scout shirt by the mid-1970s was being commonly worn with jeans. The Scouts also werar heavy kneesocks with long pull-over-top socks.

Chronology

Garments

Chilean Scouts have worn traditional Scout uniforms, which have changed remakably little over time.

Headgear

Chilean Scouts in the 1960s were wearing berets as head gear, but by the 1990s this had changed to base-ball type hats. HBU i snot positive just when this change was made. Images from the 1970s show that Chilean Scouts were still wearing berets in the 1970s.

Kerchiefs

Scouts have continued to wear tradituional kerchiefs with their Scout shirts.

Figure 2.--The Chilean Scouts uin 1972 were still wearing traditional Scout uniforms. Most boys were wearing short pants, but a few were also wearing long pants. Only about half of the boys appear to be wearing their berets.

Shirts

The tan shirts and shorts appear little changed over the years. The Scout shirt appears to have been much more popular than te Scout pants.

Pants

Chilean Scouts in the 1960s wore tan short pants to mach their tan shirts. Scouts by the 1970s, however, were wearing their Scout shirts commonly worn with jeans rather than the official Scout shorts. Images from the 1990s, however, show that some Chilean Scouts were wearing the entire formal Scout uniform. HBU is not sure how common this was.

Kneesocks

The Scouts also werar heavy kneesocks with long pull-over-top socks.
