English Wolf Cub Caps: Badges and Pins

Figure 1.--This English Cub in 1958 was working on nature studies. Note that he wears the Wolf badge rather than the Fleur-de-lis badge. Botice the two star pins on each side of the wolf badge.

The cap had a badge at the front. It was a cloth Wolf's head badge. We are not positive when this badge was first introduced. We note early images of English Cubs who do not appear to have this badge on their caps. I believe the wolf was done in red. We notice this badge through the 1950s. The Cub here wears the Wolf badge in 1958. It was eventually changed to a fleur-de-lis. The Cub cap continued virtually unchanged for most of the 20th century. The only important change was that the badge of the front of the cap was changed to the international Scout symbol, the Fleur-de-lis. I'm not sure just when the change was made. The flur=de-lis cap badge can be seen on the caps of the Cubs seen here in the image . We have noted some Cubs with pins such as stars on their caps in addition to the Cub badge (figure 1). I'm not sure if this was officially permitted or just that some Cubs did this on their own.

Star Pins

We have noted some Cubs with pins such as stars on their caps in addition to the Cub badge (figure 1). We note this both during the 1950s and 60s. I'm not sure if this was officially permitted or just that some Cubs did this on their own. We have seen Cubs with these pins so often that it does appear to have been officially scantioned. Normally the Cubs we have noted had two star pins.
