Here we see Sammie Tate Brewers. He was 5 years old when his portrait was taken in Kisse, Texas. I'm not sure just what kind of cap he was wearing. It is undated but was probably taken about 1905. Sammie wears a kneepants sailor suit. I'm not sure what the color of the suit would have been. The most interesting aspect of the portrait is that his mother has added a very large white ruffled collar. This is a good example of how mothers added ruffled collars to garments that were not normally associated with fancy lace or uffled collars. Ofren a boy might wear a suit for a year or two with the ruffled collar, but then then when he was a little older wear it without the collar.
