Eton suits
Figure 1.--This snapshot shows a young mother with her two children, Gene and Eugenia Gasser. We are not entirely sure about the last name. It could be Sasser. The children look to be about 3-6 years old. We know the snapshot was taken in August 1945 at the end of World War II, but we do not know where. The buildings in the background looks like a northeastern city like Phiadelphia or New York. Gene wears a classic short pants Eton suit comolete with a matching peaked cap and Eton blouse collar. Eugenia wears a coat which seems a little strange for August. Click on the image to see the writing in the back. Let us know if you think the family is Gasser or Sasser (a more common name).

This snapshot shows an attractive young mother with her two young children, Gene and Eugenia Gasser. We are not entirely sure about the last name. It could be Sasser. The children look to be about 3-6 years old. We know the snapshot was taken in August 1945 at the end of World War II. Perhaps it is a snap to send to dad who may be overseas as part of the War effort. We do not know where the picture was taken, but clearly in a big city. The row houses in the background looks like a northeastern city like Phiadelphia or New York. Gene wears a classic short pants Eton suit complete with a matching peaked cap and Eton blouse collar. Eugenia wears a coat which seems a little strange for August. Mother looks like a real fashion plate, concerned with fashion. It is thus understandable that she would dress her children in fashionable clothing as well. A reader goes into more detail, "The blond haired boy with the possible crew cut, the peaked cap, the Eton blouse with the collar open at the neck, and what I think is a 'T' shirt styled undershirt visible. I also think I see a reflection of a button that would be a button on blouse not obscured by a belt. The Eton jacket is not buttoned closed and the shorts are not of the same color as the jacket, but that could be shadowing. Although, at that time, shorts and jackets were not necessarily the same color but were often matched. The socks appear to be short and the elastic has worn out on one if not both socks that they hang over the standard oxfors shoes. Notice that the shoes are tied and appear tan to me and are not polished but slightly scuffed."
