Hugh Davey Rendal
Figure 1.-- This CDV portrait was taken by Monsieur A. Bouche, a portrait studio in Brighton. The use of "Monsieur" was presumably to give a classy French image to the studio. The boy pictured is Hugh Davey Rendall. He is wearing a stylish velvet double-breasted suit. He wears his outfit with a boater. Hugh has longish hair down to his ears. The CDV is undated, but a 1879 medal award is mentioned on the back. We believe that this usually meant recently earned medals, so the portrait was presumably taken about 1880.

Hugh Davey Rendal (England, about 1880)

This CDV portrait was taken by Monsieur A. Bouche, a portrait studio in Brighton. The use of "Monsieur" was presumably to give a classy French image to the studio. The boy pictured is Hugh Davey Rendall. He is wearing a stylish velvet double-breasted suit with an Eton collar. He wears his outfit with a boater. The Eton collar and boater look rather like a school style. The suit I don't think is a school uniform, but rather a stylish outfit. He seems to have a mourning band on his right sleeve. Hugh has longish hair down to his ears. The CDV is undated, but a 1879 medal award is mentioned on the back. We believe that this usually meant recently earned medals, so the portrait was presumably taken about 1880. Either Hugh or other family members went to Harrow and Oxford.
