Figure 1.--Charles Richard Van Norstrand. It is an American image, although we do not know where it was taken. The name suggests Dutch ancestry. He is 6 years and 3 month old although he looks a bit younger. He wears a plaid Little Lord Fauntleroy skirted kilt suit. |
Here we have only a poor image. Normlly we like to post larger, more detailed images. This image is especially interesting because we not only have a name, but it illustrate an important style as well as in interesting prop. We do, however, have his name--Charles Richard Van Norstrand. It is an American image, although we do not know where it was taken. The name suggests Dutch ancestry. He is 6 years and 3 month old although he looks a bit younger. He wears a plaid Little Lord Fauntleroy skirted kilt suit. It is a littledifferent than most Fauntleroy kilt suits, in that the jacket and skirt match. It is different than most kilt suits as the plaid is a very bold one. It is inscribed on the back, "to Aunt Jenny with hugs and kisses." He had his portrait taken with a girl doll. Images of boys with dolls during this period are not unknown, but they were one of the least common props in America. The portrait is undated, but we would estimate it was
taken about 1890.
