English Families: Unknown Southampton Family (1890s)

Figure 1.-- This studio cabinent card shows a mother with her six children, four boys and two girls. We would guess that the children are about 5-15 years old. It is a useful image because it provides a good look at fashion for children of different ages and genders. The portrait is undated, but we would guess was taken in the 1890s. We are archiving it in the 90s, but the 80s is possible.< Notice thr mother girls do notnhave the baloon sleeves fashionable in the 1890s.

The next youngest boy looks to wearing a jersey sweater. Three of the boys have small Eton collars with small bows. Two boys wear cut-away jackets, albeit with minimal cutaway area.
