Greek Boys Clothes: Crete--Unknown Family, 1929

Figure 1.--This Crete family was photographed in 1917. The two biys wear very plain, dress like garments which were still common for younger children, both boys and girls.

A photograph shows a peasant family on Crete in 1919. Their two boys wear plain dark dresses, still common for younger at the time. Another photograph taken in 1929 shows the same family standing outside their white-washed home. We do not know their name. The boys wear short pants outfits (gigure 2). The father, but not the boys wears a necktie. One boy wears a short pants suit and another appears to be wearing a sailor suit. It is hard to male out what the third older brother is wearing, Both boys wear closed-toe sandals without socks. The boys wear dark sandals, but I am not sure about the color. The girls also wear sandals, but their sandals are white. The boys have short hair cuts, but not as short as we have seen in some other photographs.

Figure 2.--This same Crete family was photographed in front of their white-washed home, about 10 years later in 1929. The boys wear short pants outfits and sandals.
