British Preparatory Schools E-Book: Volume III--Locations

Figure 1.--Prep schools are located in cities, suburbs, and rural areas. The location affects both operations and facilities. This London school has to use a city bpark for games and recreation.

Prep schools are located all over Britain. They are located in every county and in a range of environments. Day schools for obvious reasons are situated in cities and suburbs to be within commuting distance. Boarding schools are often located in more rural area or in quiet country villages. Quite a number of boarding schools were once located in rural areas and have had suburbs grow up around them. The locaion of the school is one of the factors that affect the atmosphere at the school.

The Headmasdter Writes ...

Highlights of the autumn term included a joyful Harvest Festival Service in a wondrfully decorated [village] churchwith the usual rousing harvest hymns. How fortunate we are at Bramcote to be able to worship every Sunday in so beautiful a Church. The village Concert held in our hall with performers of all ages, from the Village School, from Nramcote and from the W.I. was again a real village occassion and was enjoyed by a packed house. This seems to have become an annual event now under the direction of Mr Cottrell and Mrs Williamson. There is no going back when you live in a village! As usual the term ended with two Carol Services -- always very moving occassions for all those who can pack into the village church.
