Simpson's

Simpson's was one of the most important retail stors in Canada. Unfortunately, we have only limited informatiuon at this time on the store. A Canadian reader has provided information on Simpson's. We do not know a great deal about the store, but notice catalogs in the 1920s. Simpson's became Simpson-Sears. Hopefully our Canadian readers will provide us some details about the company.

Ages

The rompers offered by Simpson's were done for boys 1 and 2 years of age.

French-language Catalog

The Simpsonn's catalog here was done in English. We do not know if they also did a French-language catalog.

Gender

The Simpson's ad copy does not specify gender. The children chosen to model the rompes are all clearly boys. Thus we can assume that rompers were considered a boys' garment.

Items

Simpsons offered three styles of rompers.

E. Rompers of Rayon Suede

The Simpson's ad copy read, "Rompers of Rayon Suede Taffeta. Short sleeves, tiny Peter Pan collar and smocking at yoke. All around belt. Buttons at back, crotch. Ages 1, 2. 26-514--Blue ... 89c." I'm not sure what Rayon suede taffeta means.

F. Rompers of Cotton Bradcloth

The Simpson's ad copy read, "Rompers of Cotton Broadcloth. Pleats in front below yoke. All around belt. Buttons at back of neck and at the crotch. Ages 1, 2. 26-515--Green 26-516--Maize ... 65c.

G. Neat Rompers

The Simpson's ad copy read, "Neat Rompers of Cotton Broadcloth. Buttons at back of neck and crotch. All around belt. White collar and cuffs. Roc-rac trim. Ages 1, 2. 26-517--Blue 26-518--Maize ... 50c.
