We note an unidentified German catalog page with bath robes and sleepwear. It is headed "Wir sind noch gar nicht müde, Mutti!" which means something like, "We are not tired yet at all, mummy!" The page offers both pajamas and bath robes. The pajama seem for younger girls, but bath robes for both boys and girls are offered. Strangely the children in bathrobes are not wearing pajamas. We are not sure if they were meanyt to be wearing night shirts or perhaps after a bath. The overall depiction, however, does not seem to be after a bath. The girl has a print bath robe, the girl some kind of print. The German term is Morgenrock, I think morning skirt or robe. The girls bathrobe is done in sizes 4-8 years and the boy's 5-9 years.
While we do not know the date the magazine was issued. There is an indication that it was issued in 1955.
We do not know the name of this publication. It apparently was a fashion magazine with had sewing patterns that mother could buy. The publication sold sewing patterns eather than the actual garments.
The ad copy reads, "Mädchenmorgenrock aus gemustertem Flanell Anleitung im ??? Arbeitsheft S. 15. Material: 2,10 m gemusterter Flanell 80 cm breit, 7 Knöpfe. ??? Schnitt für 4, 6, 8 Jahre beim Verlag erhältlich." This means something like, "Girl's morning robe from examined Flanell guidance in??? Work booklet P. 15. Material: 2.10 m examined Flanell 80 cm broad, 7 buttons. ??? Cut for 4, 6, 8 years available from the Publishing house."
The ad copy reads, "Knabenmorgenrock aus kariertem Flanell Anleitung im ??? Arbeitsheft S. 15. Material: 1,80 m karierter Stoff 130 cm breit, 4 Knöpfe. ??? Schnitt für 5, 7, 9 Jahre beim Verlag erhältlich." This means something like, "Boy's morning skirt from cross-hatched Flanell guidance in??? Work booklet P. 15. Material: 1.80 m cross-hatched material 130 cm broad, 4 buttons. ??? Cut for 5, 7, 9 years available from the publishing house"
One reader wrote, "He might well be wearing pajamas with shorts." This is of course a possibility. The two pages this detail is from, however, clearly offfered snug winter sleepwear which is why HBC didn't think summer shorty pajamas were very likely. Another reader write, " I guessed the night shirt from Bill's HBC page where he described the summer in Germany and said the boy who was older wore a nightshirt and it was short. If you look carefully on the page, he seems to be wearing either a white collared something (pj top or night shirt collar) or a towel wrapped around his neck that the robe goes around. With that and Bill's commentary, I thought a night shirt is the probable answer. I doubt the boy would have had nothing on under the bathrobe. However, this is only my guess."
