We do not yet have any detailedvinformation about Walter Fields, except we know the company was located in Chicago.

Fields calls these bib-front pants "playalls". It's not a term we have noted to be used widely. The Field's ad copy read, "So practical and cute. Bib-top, two pockets. (Shirt included.) Sizes: 2. 4, 6, and 8. In Navy twill a Sanforized cotton, E4310 ... $1.09. In corduroy navy, brown or green. Elastic-top drop seat. E4311 ... $1.98." A reader writes, "Notice that the more expensive corduroy version of the bib front pants had the elastic drop seat while the less expensive version makes no mention of it which would then have made the play pants harder for a youngster to deal with by himself." HBc sure if the difference in price reflects just the different material or a difference in design. This may be the case, but it also just reflect the rather cryptic ad copy not providung a full enough description.
Note the term "longies". This was a common term for describing long pants. I'm not sure when it began to be used. We nore it in the in the 1940s and early 50s, but it was no longer being used by the 1950s. Note the comparable term "shorties" was never used--except for pajamas. The Fields ad copy read, "Jeans for playtime, corduroy for dress-up. Elastic at waist. Sizes: 2, 4, 6, 8. Blue jeans of Sanforized denim. Two rivited pockets. E4312 ... $1.19. Corduroy Navy, brown, green E4313 ... $1.98."
I don't remember as a boy in Washington at the time boys wearing these coveralls, but presumably they were in other areas. The Field's ad copy read, "Complete covering for cool days. Comfortably full-cut play suit of easy-to-wash. Danfirized shrunk chambray. Double-sewn seams: bartacked pockets; buttoned drop seat. Sizes: 2, 4, 6, 8. E4314. Price ... $1.77."
