American Mail Order Catalogs with Boys Clothings: Garments--Reinerth Hats

Figure 1.--These are some of the hat styles offered for children by W.M. Reinerth & Co., a New Orleans wholesaler.

W.M. Reinerth & Co., a New Orleans wholesaler specializing in hats, offered a variety of hats for children and boys. The children's hats denote a younger boy and boys' hats are for older boys, although the specific ages are not specified. One of the key cgharacteristic for the younger children are a more noticably rounded crown.

Child' Wool Hats

Reinerth had narrow-brimmed rounded crown hats along with a few that had fedorra styling. HBC is not sure about the date, probably about 1890. The colors were mostly blue, black, tobacco and stone. There is no indication of the appropriate age for the boys wearing these hats, but they are for younger children. The principal characteristics of these hats making them suitable for younger children were a distinct rounded crown and large varied hat bands. One notable feature is that none of these hats, while they have fancy hat bands, have streamers. Also elastic chin straps are not shown.

Boy's Wool Hats

Reinerth & Co. had an even larger selection of hat for boys. Again they are in a great variety of styles, even more than is the case for the younger boys. On this page there is one additional row of child's hats before the boys' hats begin.
