We note that many children's books were published without the author's name. We assume that these books were printed by
publishers who contracted writers to do a variety of formula pieces. The lack of attribution may also reflect the low regarded
accorded to children's books in the early 20th century. The illustrators are also often not indicated.
'Peter's Adventure' is a good example of English children's literature. It was was published around 1936-37 as is a typical example. I find the cover rather intriguing as the suave looking
boy in the boat gazes on Peter regardingly. Peter by contrast looks quite naive and innocent with his sun hat, satchel,
tidy clothes and cute socks. He has run away from home and comes across Tom, a riff-raff of a boy.
