Soviet Fashion Publications and Children's Fashions: Children Models and Patterns

Figure 1.--These children's outfits appeared in a Soviet fashion magazine "Children Models and Patterns" published in Lenningrad during 19??. The outfits could not be ordered like a catalog, but a basic pattern may have been included in the magazine.

This magazine was titled Dla detej - modeli i vykrojki Readers translate it variously as (Children Models and Patterns or Children Clothes: Models and Patterns. This magazine was published by a Lenningrad fashion house--the Lenningrad House of Models. We do not know much about the magazine, but know it was being published in the 1960s. We note a Young Pioneer uniform they created in 1964. Another item was a boys' suit, also creasted in 1964. It was a short pants suit worn with a red Young Pioneer neckerchief. We are not sure when the magazine was founded. It seems to have been in operation during the 1980s. We do not yet know what happened to the magazine or the Leningrad House of Models after the disolution of the Soviet Union. Our understanding is that the magazine itself provided some patterns. They were generally basic patterns in a narrow range of sizes. The magazine did not offer more detailed patterns for purchase, only what was in the magazine. Some of the garments illustrated like suits are rather complicated to make. We are not sure how hekpful a basic magazine pattern would be, unless a person was a very competent seamstress.
