We note American boys wearing a wide range of hair styles with tunic suits. They were mostly short cuts as was the style for boys in the early 20th century. The most popular style seems to have been bangs. We see large number of portraits and snapshots of boys with bangs wearing tunic suits. We note bangs done in various ways. We also notice various short cuts with parts. Some boys also had short-cropped hair. Much less common are long hair styles such as ringlet curls. These styles were becoming less common after the turn-of-the 20th century, just the time that tunics suits had become very popular. There was an overlap in the 1900s. Ringlet curls were not a msjor hair style worn with tunic suits, but we do note a number of boys with ringlets. The tunic suit was a garment that cold be worn for play as well as dressing up. Which in part explains why we see some boys in ringlets wearing them. Boys with ringlet curls were more commonly dressed formally than other boys.

Bangs

The most popular hair style worn with tunic suits seems to have been bangs. This was a traditionally popular hair style for boys. They have varied in popularity as well as the age conventions associated with them over time. We see large number of portraits and snapshots of boys with bangs wearing tunic suits in both the 1900s and 1910s when tunic suits were especially popular. We note bangs in this period done in various ways.

Short Cuts with Parts

We also notice various short cuts with parts. American boys had longish hair, often cvering thrir ears or much of theie ears ar mid-century. By the 1860s we begin to see short hair styles becoming standard.

Cropped Hair

Some boys also had short-cropped hair. This was not all that common. The cropped hair we see so commonly in Europe was not very common in America.

Ringlet Curls

Much less common with tunic suits are long hair styles such as ringlet curls. Most American boys who wore long hair had ringlet styles. We believe ringlets would have been much more common in the 1900s than the 1910s when tunic suits continued to be popular.

Top Curls

We also notice younger boys wearing tunic suits with top curls. A top curl was a large, uually fat curl, right at the top of the head. There were many variations on this basic theme. This is something that was not common for curls. Riglets were worn by boys ag girls, The top curl was mostly for boys. This was primarily in the mid-19th century, beginning in the the 1860s, This was often, but not always combined with ringlet curl hair styles. We see boys with top curls wearing a wide range of outfits, The tunics were just one of the many styles.
