Knabenchor Marianum Fulda Costume Garments

Figure 1.--The Knabenchor Marianum Fulda Choir is seen here in 1973. They have added a matching dark blue vest to their uniform.

The choir does not seem to have had a uniform cap. They have normally worn white shirt with dark blue ties, although in some photographs the boys have worn bow ties or a kind of cross tie. The first choir costume was short blue pants. Like several other German choirs, white kneesocks were adopted. The blue short pants were replaced with darker blue or black black shorts. The choir in 1988 switched to long pants. The early choir had no jacket. In the 1970s they appear to have adopted a vest, apparently in 1973. The vest was worn with the choir crest. It has a yellow background. The choir then wore the vest with short pants and white kneesocks until 1988. The vests in 1988 were replaced with short red jacket.

Caps

The choir does not seem to have had a uniform cap.

Shirts

The choir has always worn long sleeve dress white shirts.

Ties

They have normally worn white shirt with dark blue ties, although in some photographs the boys have worn bow ties or a kind of cross tie.

Vests

The choir in the 1970s adopted a vest, apparently in 1973. They were dark blue or black vests matching the short pants. The vest was worn with the choir crest. It has a yellow background. We have noted some photographs in which the boys appear to be wearing very large crests on their vests. The choir wore the vest with short pants and white kneesocks until 1988. The vests in 1988 were replaced with short red jacket.

Jackets

The early choir had no jacket. Dor about 15 years the choir wore a vest matching their short pants. About 1988 the choir adopted a bright red jacket. They are not blazers like American and English choirs wear, byut rather short red jackets.

Pants

The first choir costume was short blue pants. At first the boys appear to have worn blue shorts in differet shades. The blue short pants were replaced with darker blue or black black shorts. By the 1970s these boys were wearing these darker shorts. The choir in 1988 switched to long black pants to be worn with the new red jackets.

Socks

Like several other German choirs, white kneesocks were adopted. Many early photographs show the boys wearing white ankle socks as well as kneesocks. This is the only German choir we have noted wearing ankle socks. By the mid-1970s all the boys wear white kneesocks.
