Russian Boy Choir Costumes: V. Loktev Singing and Dancing Ensemble: Dance Routiens

Figure 1.--This is the Singing and Dancing Ensemble of V. Loktev performing an outdoor dance routien about 1977. I'm not sure just what kind of routien it was, but their costumes have a kind of German look to them.

When a Russian reader first told us about this group we at first thought that it was a choir. After obtaining more information we find that it is not really a traditional choir although they do sing choral numbers. Our information is still limited, but they appear to be as much a dance as a coral group. As the name implies they also give performances with dance numbers along with their singing. We have no information at this time as to just what type of dance routiens that they perform. One routien can be seen here in a photograph taken about 1977. I'm not sure just what kind of dance routien it was, but their costumes have a kind of German look to them because of the "H" like halter affair attached to their shorts--looking vaguely like lederhosen. I'm not sure if the boys' dance routien had some connection with Germany or if these were just a type of colorful outfits without any particular significance. At any rate a German reader does not think that thaey look like actual German outfits. He tells us, "This is not a real German look. A single boy might have been clad like this some 20 years ago, but never a group or choir and the cut is different." German boys this age may have worn real lederhosen, but never the cloth replicas that these boys are wearing. They were only worn by younger boys.
