Artists Illustrating Boys' Fashions: Carl Olof Danig (Denmark, 1898-??)

Figure 1.--This portrait was painted by Carl Olof Danig. We note a portrait of a boy in blue sailor suit. We do not who the boy is. He looks to be about 10 or 11 years old. He wears a very traditionally styled sailor suits, complete with a whistle.

Another Danish artist appears to havev been active after World War I. We know nothing about him at this time. He signed his paintings Cd. We note a portrait of a boy in blue sailor suit. We do not who the boy is. Presumably he is a Danish boy. He looks to be about 10 or 11 years old. He wears a very traditionally styled sailor suits, complete with a whistle. The sailor suit wa a very popular style in Denmark for boys. It had begun to decline in popularity during the 1930s, but was still eworn. Denmark did not have a significant navy, but many Danes worked as naerchant seamen. We are not sure when this portrait was painted, but would guess the 1930s before World War II. It is a competent, but not particularly exciting portrait of the boy. I say that not because it is not a reasonable likeness of the boy. But I am left with little feeling about thde boys's personality and character, something a good painted portrait should convey.
