Canada: 1880s-90s Boys' Clothing

Figure 1.-- This portrait shows Fred as a older boy about 12-13 years of age weaing a three-piece knickers suit. Image courtey of the CO collection.

The older portrait showsthe boy at about 12-13 years of age. He is Canadian, but we are not yet sure where the portrait was taken. It was probably taken in 1890s. He wears a three-piece knickers suit with a very large Eton collar, I think without a tie. This is a much larger Eton collar than I have normally noticed. The suit looks to be a light-weight summer suit. Note that he has buttoned all the buttons on his vest (waistcoat). It is a solid colored suit, but I am not sure about the color. He has tucked the bottom of his knickers in heavy kneesocks.
