Figure 1.--Here we see two boys who we believe to be schoo friends of William Robinson. The photograph was taken in 1878 outside Chart Sutton Vicarage. Kite is yet another person wearing the unusual smoking hat style of cap. Unfortunately, we do not know what school the boys attended. The age of the boys suggest it was a public school.

This image was clearly taken on the same date as the one and is of J Petley on the left and an F Kite on the right (this is the only image in which Kite appears). Again, this was taken in 1878 outside Chart Sutton Vicarage. Kite is yet another person wearing the unusual smoking hat style of cap. It is also interesting to note that in spite of his apparent youth (William Robinson and J Petley appear to be about 14 in these images, and it is likely F. Kite was another firend of William's) he definitely appears to be growing long sideburns. His jacket appears to be very restrictive and one wonders if his slouching in the chair is because of nonchalence or because he couldn't sit up comfortably in it! His suit is probably light grey. It has a very high collar on it and a stiped design of 2 thin light stripes together on the darker material. It looks like his shoes have four lace holes and the shade of them suggests they were brown. He is also wearing a handkerchief from his breast pocket. This image is interesting because it probably illustrates how boys at public schools dressed in the 1870s, the caps of course would have presumably only be worn imformally in the boarding houses. Unfortunately we do not know what school the boys attended.
