English Boys Clothing Stores: Colts (1974)

Figure 2.--The Colts 1974 catalog offered a wide range of casual short trousers in a varity of styles, including American camp shorts.

The summer catalog included a lot of casual clothes like short trousers, including some foreign styles like American camp shorts. At this time HBC does not have the full catalog, but a reader has provided one of the images from the catalog showing some of the styles that were available through Colts in 1974. The shorts show the short-cut Continental styling that had become popular in England during the 1970s. One American style was camp shorts. Colts called these shorts "Bush Shorts", but they are the traditional camp shorts. They also said that it was the tenth year that they'd been selling them, which means that they'd sold them since they opened in 1965. HBC does not know how popular these shorts were. HBC has not noted them being widely worn by English boys. Much of the Colts line was from Continental Europe rather than America, although some Werstern-style garments seemed popular.
