West End: Summer Suits, 1909

Figure 1.--This 1909 West End ad offers sailor suits and caps. Here are the summer versions. Also note the reffer jacket. The two kneepants summer sailor suits look rather similar. Unfortunately we can't read the ad copy.

We note a Paris store which appeared to be called West End. This is not a store we know anything about. We do know that it was an extremely large department store located at Rue Caumartin, Rue Auber, and Haussman. There can't have been many stores that were larger. Perhaps our French readers will know about it. The use of an English names presumably indicates a fashionable high-end store. We have an ad from the store offering summer sailor suits. These were white suits, probably made in light-weight material like linen for Sprung and Summer wear. There were two kneepants suits. The two kneepants sailor suits look rather similar. Unfortunately we can't read the ad copy. The styles were called Glory and Loyal. They were made in sizes from 3-11 years. The mathching hats came in two styles. There was also a reefer jacket for Fall-Winter wear.
