La Redoute in 1971 offered four other styles of casual play shorts. These are cut much shorter than the Bermuda shorts described above. The come in different dstyles, colors, and material. Here the catalog just shows the shorts without the accompanying clothes to go with them.
La Redoute is an important Paris department store. The store was especially noted for its mail order catalog. One French reader has mentioned the "La Redoute" catalog was well known throughout France. The clothing offered is a good indicator of styles that were widely worn in France and by French people in overseas locations. The some styles were also widely worn in Belgium. Redoute was especially popular in the 1970s.
The trademarks involved were Sabfor® (meaning sanforized) and Dacron®.
La Redoute offered four styles of casual play shorts. They were all cut much shorter than the Bermudas (styles A and B) also offered, but were in different styles, and colors/patterns.
The ad copy reads, "Short en gabardine coton traité 'wash and wear' (pas de repasssge) et grand ??? 2 poches plaquées devant, 1 poche revolver. Surpiqúres. Fermetture métallique à la braguette." That translates as, " ????? ". They come in beige, marine (navy blue), and pétrole (black?). The waist sizes are 102 cm, 114cm, 125cm, 138 cm, 150 cm, 162 cm, and 168 cm. I'm not sure what that means in ages. Prices range from F14.50-17.50. These shorts have a somewhat similar look to American camp shorts, but the material is not as haevy and there is no zip pocket.
These basic boxer shorts were the least expensive ones offered by La Redoute. They were not made for the largest size that some of the others shorts were done in. The ad copy reads, "Short mixte en polyester et coton à ceinture boxer. Deux poches plaquées garries ??? piqúres". That translates as, "Shorts mixed polyester and cotton with boxer waist. Two pockets ????? ???? ". They came in gris perle (pearl grey), beige, and marine (navy blue). The waist sizes are 102 cm, 114cm, 125cm, 138 cm, 150 cm, and 162 cm. I'm not sure what that means in ages. Prices range from F8.50-11.00.
The term jean in French seems to refer to the cut of the pants rather than the material as neither of the the two jean shorts show here are offered in denim. The ad copy reads, "Short-jean en trés fort tissu cotton traité Sanfor irrétrécissable. Ceinture élastique ???. Braguette, 2 pouches devant, 1 poche revolver." That translates as, " ????? ". They come in bleu (blue) and vert foncé (???? green). The waist sizes are 102 cm, 114cm, 125cm, 138 cm, 150 cm, 162 cm, and 168 cm. I'm not sure what that means in ages. Prices range from F11.50-14.50.
The ad copy reads, "Style jean pour ce short Dacron en polyester et coton, si agréable à porter. ???? deux poches en biais, braguette à fermeture métallique. Au dos: empiécement ?? une poche plaquée." That translates as, " ???? ". ???? ". They came in grisb perle (pearl grey), beige, and marine (navy blue). The waist sizes are 114cm, 125cm, 138 cm, 150 cm, 162 cm, and 168. I'm not sure what that means in ages. Prices range from F22.50-27.50.
