Figure 1.--This is one of the styles of boys school smocks offered by Bobine in 2005. There were several different styles, including front buttoning. This was a side-buttoning style. We are not sure how common they were at French schools. They were done in blue and grey shades in sizes 4-16 years.

This is one of the styles of boys school smocks offered by Bobine Company in 2005. We know very little about the company at this time. There were several different styles, including front buttoning. This was a side-buttoning style. We are not sure how common they were at French schools. They may have been used for specialty usesuch as art class rather than for the full school day. Here we are not sure. We had thought that smocks were no longer common in French schools. The Bobine smocks here were done in blue and grey shades in sizes 4-16 years. All were done as colarless smocks without waistbands. The characteristics of the smock seen here are: Encolure arrondie, Bride d'attache porte-manteau au dos, Boutonnage épaule, Manches longues, Poignets élastiqués, Poche plaquée, 100% coton" That means, "Round neck, Bride of fastener davit to the back, boutonnage supports long sleeves, elastic wrists, patch pockets, 100% cotton". The smocks seem rather expensive for a basic protective garment. They cost 25 Euros.
