Wards in its Summer 1914 catalog offered several styles of wash suits. Mist were Russian blouse suits. There were also Sailor blouse suits and French blouse suits. Here are some of thise suits. The term suits are used because the top and bottom are of the same or cntrasting material.
Here are two of the styles of Russian blouses offered by Wards in 1914.
The Wards ad copy read, "Child's Russian Blouse Suit. The material used for this number is a heavy top weave, cotton wash fabric, that will only bevfound in suits of the better grade. It has a large sailor collar, trimmed with soutache and large flat braids. The shield, which can be taken out, when desired, is embroidered in white. A black patent leather belt is furnished with each suit. Sizes 2 1/2 to 7 years."
Same as the above obly done in tan.
Wards offered quite a few different styles of Russian blouses, but only one style of French blouse.
The ad copy read, "$1.50 Child's French Blouse Suit. Made of a olain white wash material. The collar, mcuffs, shield, tie, and waist band are made of fast color, blue or red wash fabric. Collar, cuffs, and shield are trimmed with soutache and flat braids. Breeches are made bloomer style, with inside button hole waist band. A very attractive garment for older children as well as little tots. Sizes 2 1/2 to 7 years."
Same as the above only trimmed in red.
