Best Younger Children Summer Lawn Dresses: Hand-made Styles (1918)

Figure 1.--We are not sure about these dresses. We believe that the dress on the right would have been seen as for a girl, but a small boy might have worn the dress on the right. Of course the two dresses in the center, both look more boyish than the dresses clearly for girls that flank them.

W-564

We are not sure about this dress. There is front smocking. It looks to us likd one a boy might have worn. The ad copy does not offer any clues. The model looks boyish. The Best ad copy read, "A DRESS OF FINE LAWN with tucked yoke; turnover collar and cuffs finished with French dots. A new note in the smart broad tucked hem. 1 to 3 years ... $1.75."

W-568

This square collar dress looks more like a smock. We would say it was a dress more for a girl. The trimmed short sleeves, trim, and use of the term "dainty" suggest that it was for girl. Of course it looks boyish in comparison to the two girlls dresses pictured with it. than the dresses clearly for girls that flank them. The ad copy read, "FINE DAINTY EMBROIDERY has been combined with fine lawn in the making of this short sleeved and low necked tucked dress. 1 to 3 years ... $2.25."
